Known for lively compositions of urban and coastal locations, artist Brooke Harker records ordinary moments on canvas. Her instantly recognizable style, characterized by ink renderings adorned with thick oil paint, captures dynamic perspectives of locations both local and abroad, such as her Havana streetscape A Havana Story.
“My paintings are time capsules and journal entries of how I spend my life, recording the intersections of people’s choices as observed in architecture, fashion and the movement of traffic,” Harker states. “The works I create are about the connections between people through time, from the people who are in the paintings, to the people I meet while painting, to those who view the art and eventually those who buy the art. Every painting contains many stories, which makes the people I get to meet along the way very important in my life; they fuel my purpose for creating art, to foster connections between people.” —
