It has been a busy summer of exhibitions and awards for Nancy Balmert, who in June had her work showcased at the Gonzaga Museum in Mantua, Italy, and in July when she received the International Prize Michelangelo at the Brancaccio Palace in Rome, Italy. The fanfare continues through the fall. In October Balmert will exhibit her art at Amsterdam Whitney Gallery and the next month she will be on of 60 artists to exhibit at the Meeting Art Gallery in Lisbon.
As to what inspires her painting, Balmert says, “I’ve always loved bold, vibrant colors, in things like clothing and cars. When it came time to look for subjects to paint, flowers were a natural choice as subjects. For me, finding flowers for my paintings is part of the fun: some of my vacation travel has been built around visiting famous gardens the world over. I’ve spent hours with my camera, to capture the perfect combination of light and color in my flowers.” —
