Rashmi Rekha’s paintings depict her interpretation of the social landscape of the world around her. “I am always in search of different ways to tell a story on the canvas and to express human behavior the way I experience it,” she says. “I draw inspiration from social issues, novels and movies. I use the expressive qualities of the human face and gesture and use these elements to create a visual story that sparks the curiosity and imagination of viewers of all ages.”
Rekha’s art is bold and colorful, yet easily accessible. She uses simple forms to depict her human figures, along with a wealth of color to express the depth of her themes and to create a moving narrative. “My process of painting is expressive and rather visceral,” she says. “I sketch my ideas anywhere, anytime, as the thoughts come. I paint in oil, acrylic and mixed media with wax and watercolors. I enjoy exploring different media.” The artist’s paintings are at private businesses in Ottawa and several art collectors in the U.S. and Canada. An international manufacturing company in Ottawa, ProSoya Inc., has their atrium and the walls of offices dedicated to her paintings. In 2006, Rekha’s diverse talent was recognized by an award delivered to her by the Prime Minister of Canada. —Want to See More?
