“Although one hears it frequently, it is ‘tried and true’ that our nation and planet holds infinite inspiration and beauty,” says plein air painter Jacalyn Beam. Beam is driven to paint outdoors and record on canvas the places she’s been as well as her home in Pennsylvania’s beautiful Brandywine Valley. “The land and its history are fascinating and worth exploring,” says Beam.
“Considering this context, painting outdoors serves to teach me more than simply ‘how to paint.’ Painting with land and history in mind helps forge new friendships and a better understanding of local culture.” Beam’s paintings often contain a story, and for the artists when she shares her paintings, “it helps bring people together, create new understandings, and serve as a record of time and place.” The artist adds, “What I see is never boring. Seeing is an opportunity to learn.”
Beam’s art can be found at Mary Williams Fine Art in Boulder, Colorado, and new works will be featured at the Carmel Fine Art Gallery in November as a result of Beam’s on-site, plein air depictions of the California Coast. —
