Kasandra McNeil chose the title My Favorite Things for her solo exhibition in 2019, for what was supposed to be an upcoming show. Then Covid happened; the dates were changed but the name of the exhibit remained the same.
McNeil kept the title because she had a clear idea of what she wanted to convey in approximately 40 new pieces of work—how random, seemingly disconnected places and subjects can end up having so many similarities.
“I have done a number of landscapes featuring the hills and lakes of Kentucky,” says McNeil. “Then I traveled to Europe and watched the clouds hang over the Black Forest region of Germany. I was wowed. I experienced the same exhilarating feeling that I get all the time on my farm in south-central Kentucky. I was seeing something magnificent. I wanted to convey that oneness we have in our world but oftentimes forget to notice.”
McNeil has explored clouds, water and landscapes, hoping to take viewers to new and old places through her work. She has many favorite things but they all consistently reaffirm her love for Mother Earth and all of her amazing wonders.
McNeil will finally present the series My Favorite Things in an exhibition at Artists’ Attic in Lexington, Kentucky from November 1 through December 30, with an opening reception on November 18 from 5 to 8 p.m. —
