After graduating from architecture school at the University of Florida in 1973, Donna Catotti moved to the Sierras, took up skiing, and soon transitioned from commercial to fine art. A love of adventure travel led her to the Grand Canyon Dories, cooking for 18-day river trips while painting in pastel. Trekking seven weeks in the Himalaya, she started creating pastel portraits and landscapes daily. In rural southeast Alaska, she and her husband handcrafted their home/studio and luthier shop from the rainforest near the ocean and mountains.
Having acquired enough skills, Catotti started focusing on portraits and figurative work in 2012, and was featured in Artists Magazine’s Over 60 Art Competition. She currently shows regularly in the National Arts Club and many other venues. Working in oil, pastel, serigraphy and sculpture, Catotti tries to capture the spiritual essence of her subjects. Catotti now serves as the Alaskan Ambassador for the Portrait Society of America, and hosts Studio Incamminati instructors for an annual portrait workshop in Haines, Alaska.
Catotti’s piece Lhamo and Her Daughter - Tibetan Refugees in Nepal will be featured in the upcoming American Women Artists’ juried exhibition Expanding Horizons at Colorado’s Loveland Museum from September 14 through November 10. —
