Artist Focus

Artist Focus: Dimitrina Kutriansky

“Nature is an inexhaustible source of ideas, an unfailing fountain of intellectual enjoyment that awakens the soul to deeper feelings of awe and wonder, allowing us to cultivate and refine our perceptions of the beauty of our existence,” says artist Dimitrina Kutriansky. “By studying the details of the distinctive images that blend into a harmonious whole, we can surpass the mundaneness of everyday life, making us aware of our unity with nature. The experience of encountering this truth is the essence of our humanity.”

Kutriansky has coined the term “romantic naturalism” to describe her style, as her artwork strives to harmonize the detailed representationalism at the heart of the naturalist movement, with the emotion and sentimentality of romanticism. “My artwork is comprised of a combination of scenes observed, of moments experienced, and of imaginary compositions derived from the visual vocabulary that I have cultivated through years of intimate encounters with nature,” she says.

“In this way, visual language evolves into emotional expression, transcending the seemingly ordinary to capture the lyricism of nature and depict scenes characterized by atmosphere and a sense of place.” —
