Coney Island - Steeplechase

The Steeplechase ride on Coney Island is an iconic symbol of the early days of Coney Island Amusement Park. This ride is still in operation and rides the original rails.

I spent a week in Paris in 2007. There was one rainy day and what better place to spend it than in the Louvre. This watercolor is from one of my photographs as I approached the I. M. Pei entrance.
Ephesus on the Rise

I took a group of 22 students and adults to Turkey and Greece in 2013 to study ancient theatres. This watercolor is from one of my photographs of Ephesus near the city of Selcuk in the central Aegean region of Turkey. The theatre was excavated in the 1860’s and is classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Painted on Arches 140 #rough paper.

A painting of the ”Big Boy” that lives in Roanoake, VA. It was leaving Asheville in 2016. A trial run after a major overhaul. Painted on Arches #140 rough paper. This painting was juried into the 2018 American Watercolor Society annual show.

This painting is from a photo I took while on the East River Ferry from Red Hook Brooklyn to Midtown. In the foreground is the Manhattan Bridge then the Brooklyn Bridge nearer the Statue of Liberty.

When I was in Phoenix and Sedona, Arizona in 2007, I took several side trips to explore this beautiful part of the country. Jerome, Arizona is a small copper mining town west of Sedona that has turned into an artists community. This building facade is precariously standing on the east edge of town, “open” for business. This painting was part of a joint exhibition at the Berlitz Language Art Gallery in Rockefeller Center, April 2012. The photographs were taken by a friend that had visited Israel. I wanted to determine if I could paint from someone else’s photographs. The exhibit was very well received.

My first overseas bicycle trip was to Southwest Ireland in 2001. This is from one of my photos in the rocky area called the Burren. This is an area south west of Lisdoonvarna in County Clare. Painted on Arches #140 rough paper.
