Owner and main artist at Westward Gallery in Denver, Michelle Courier—known for her tree and Lake Tahoe waterscapes—has kept her audience engaged by challenging herself to take new approaches to her works. Courier’s newest collection features a bright technicolor approach, inviting the viewer to feel “light” and energy in her pieces with a fresh color palette and subjects featuring bold, bright hues.
“I wanted to expand my pieces in a brighter, playful direction, bringing more color to Westward Gallery’s walls. As a gallery owner, I am constantly finding inspiration and challenging myself as both a gallery owner and artist,” notes Courier. The inspiration for Courier’s latest series, The Gummy Bears, was a fascination with a small object while creating a contemporary pop composition.
“Looking at each bear, I saw the tiny air bubbles and a taken for granted, favorite of mine candy; looking at it in a way that really makes, or inspires, you to observe the pieces in an artistic way,” she says.
These newest pieces, including works from The Gummy Bears series, will be exhibited in her main gallery through January 31 as part of Winter’s Inspiration. The exhibition features new works by the artist as well as fresh pieces from the 12 other artists on her gallery roster.
