"City of Lights" is based on a similar, smaller piece I painted plein air with my head hanging out the window of the airbnb we rented in Paris last year. I had searched for two weeks before selecting the apartment that provided a neighborhood to enjoy and the best view available for a painting. This one won, looking down on Rue Montorgueil --- a market street in Paris. After painting the first version on a rare rainy day, we visited the Musee d'Orsay and specifically the French Impressionist Collection there. To my surprise, I realized Claude Monet had painted "my" street from about the same perspective. Very cool. "City of Lights" is in the French Paintings Collection on my website under Artwork. "Last Lavender" was painted plein air during my July trip to the South of France. I had painted in a lavender field in Valensole five days prior when the fields were full and plentiful. This day, we couldn't find any which still had purple blooms ... until after we had essentially given up and found this one. As I was finishing painting it, the trucks rolled in to harvest it and one by one, each row turned green. It is in the French Paintings Collection on my website under Artwork.
