3/7/2025 - 6/2/2025Double Bluff Beach
Andy Eccleshall
Oil on Canvas
54 x 108 x 3.5 inches (L x W x D)
Double Bluff Beach on Whidbey Island, WA. This open expanse of sky is best captured on an enormous scale. By far my dog's favorite place in the whole world. This painting attempts to capture the briskness and cool light of this beautiful location. The scale of the painting allows the viewer to "feel" the scene.
Edison Sunrise
Andy Eccleshall
Oil on Canvas
20 x 60 x 1.5 inches (L x W x D)
The inlet at Edison WA in the Skagit Valley, seen at sunrise in late October. This painting is based on a 30 minute plein air sketch of the scene. Plein air studies allow me to rapidly and accurately capture the color of the scene, which can then be used as a reference for the studio painting.

Fall at Skinny Creek

Oil on Canvas
36 x 36 x 1.5 inches (L x W x D)
On the eastern side of the Cascade Mountains, near Leavenworth WA. I was fascinated by the texture of the roof on this old barn and the brilliant flash of yellow birch even on a typically misty Northwest fall day.

Fir Island, Skagit Valley WA. Capturing the last light of day as the shadows creep up the face of the barn and touch the tops of the trees in the background.

The minimalistic landscape of the Okanogan Highlands of WA state. Early evening nocturn.
Going Nowhere Fast
Andy Eccleshall
Oil on Canvas
40 x 60 x 1.5 inches (L x W x D)
This delightfully surreal view was discovered in the Skagit Valley, WA in the spring of 2024. The barn is lifted to allow for a foundation to be created. The simple composition adds to the oddness of the image. Too deliciously unusual not to paint!
Into the Light
Andy Eccleshall
Oil on Canvas
48 x 96 x 3.5 inches (L x W x D)
I have painted this little abandoned farmhouse numerous times. There is a poetry to it. Open to the elements but still standing proudly after more than a hundred years of punishment from the Pacific Northwest weather, there are a lot of metaphors that can be drawn. The entire composition is built around the house. All the perspective lines of the furrows run through it, the sky seems to radiate from it. For me this painting captures everything I love about the Skagit Valley of WA state. Openness, sky, light, contrast and minimalistic landscape.

Oil on Canvas

Madrone trees ring the coastlines of the Pacific Northwest. When alive their bark and trunks are bright red-orange. When they die they go a ghostly white. This ancient remnant clinging to the rocky outcrop is very typical of the beautiful San Juan Islands coastlines of WA State

The very last light of day catches the very top of Mt. Baker, from Fir Island in the Skagit Valley.
