Artist Focus: Rashmi Rekha

Painting has been Rashmi Rekha’s passion since a very early age. She enjoys exploring different mediums such as oil, acrylic and mixed media with wax and watercolors. Landscape 99, oil on canvas 30 x 40"

“My paintings depict my investigation and interpretation of the social and natural landscape of the world around me,” she explains. “I am inspired by the splendor of nature and more of its changing appearance every moment and every season in color, shape, light and emotion. I believe in painting emotions on the canvas rather than painting a picture, and I enjoy narrating a story on my canvas using bright colors and multiple layers of paint.”The Explorer, oil on canvas, 36 x 48"Rekha’s paintings have been acquired at private businesses in Ottawa, Canada, and by private collectors in the U.S. and Canada. Rekha has been recognized with an award delivered by the prime minister of Canada in 2006. She will exhibit with the Art Lending of Ottawa at the RA Centre beginning September 18; in the Promenade Arteast VAVE exhibition through November 23; and in Mosaic, an Arteast juried show at the Trinity Gallery, Shenkman Arts Centre, through November 25. —
